Chickpeas are definitely an underrated foods. They appear boring, when in fact they are really quite versatile, affordable, and have many health benefits.

Savory Chickpeas Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of garbanzo/chickpea beans

  • 1 cup onions, diced

  • 1 1/2 medium tomatoes, diced

  • 1 1/2 cups of water

  • 6 tablespoons of olive oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric

  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon of red chili pepper powder (not flakes)

  • 1 teaspoon of coriander

  • 1 teaspoon of cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg

  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon of salt


  • Prepare the chickpeas. If using dry beans: soak overnight and cook first. If using canned: remove from can and thoroughly rinse.

  • Place tomatoes in medium pot, mash them.

  • Add in the remaining ingredients.

  • Bring to a boil.

  • Cook over low-medium heat for 3 minutes.

  • Enjoy!
